A visit to Monach Farm can enhance your pupils learning by linking many of the general and specific topics in the curriculum.
Your visit to Monach Farm can be used to cover many subjects in the curriculum at all Key Stages including Design and Technology, Geography and Science.
And can also be used to enhance and develop skills in English and Maths, as well as being a stimulating experience that uses all 5 senses.
Your visit is tailor-made
You tell us your topics or areas of interest and we will adapt the visit to fit your pupil’s learning. Monach Farm is unique, we are a working farm with an ancillary riding stables and education unit. Our cows are not black and white, and our milk comes from goats.
We have walkways around all our fields, these provide habitats for wildlife and make your visit easy to plan and safe for everyone.
Our farm is on the edge of Hilton village green, a conservation area with historic significance dating back to before the Domesday Book. The farm is managed under conservation and organic principles.
Much of the area of Cambridgeshire, where we farm is arable land growing wheat, barley and oil seed rape. We work with the RSPB to encourage birds to find a sanctuary on our grassland fields, and have recorded over 80 species using the farm for feeding and nesting.

Farm visits are education based
Monach is a family run farm, with an emphasis on minority breeds of British livestock. Our animals are kept to a very high health status for showing and for our breeding export sales. Our sheds and fields mean all our animals are easily accessible and well handled, but no visitors are left unsupervised and access to any animal housing is only allowed in the company of our staff.
A visit to Monach Farm is an outdoor activity, but our main yard and classroom are all on hard standing and we have barns that can be used in inclement weather. It is recommended that pupils wear wellingtons or sturdy trainers as there will be walking around the fields as part of your visit.
Your comfort and welfare are well catered for with toilet and hand washing facilities. A staff room with tea and coffee-making facilities is also available for staff to use.

Monach Farm is located 8 miles north of Cambridge, easily accessible just 2 miles off the A14.
How long will a visit take?
This will depend on what you want to do, a basic 2 hour farm walk to meet the animals is free. Extra topics and work sheets will incur a cost of £2.50 per child / topic (minimum 15 children).
